Primus Energy Services

Air Blowing & Drying

Air blowing removes construction debris, loose rust, dust, scale, weld slag, water, and other contaminants from process piping and pipeline systems before startup. Primus supports air blowing during pre-commissioning, commissioning, plant modifications, maintenance outages, and return-to-service work across Alberta oil and gas plants, compressor stations, SAGD sites, terminals, refineries, fabrication modules, and utility piping systems.

Where It Applies

Industrial & Municipal Applications

Industrial / Oilfield Applications

Primus applies both continuous air blowing and decompression (blowdown) air blowing depending on the system and the cleanliness target, using air velocity and cleaning force calculated for the specific line rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Engineered procedures guide temporary piping, receivers, silencers or debris-collection points, exclusion zones, pressure control, and noise management, with acceptance checks (such as a target plate test) confirming the system is clean before sign-off.

Typical Applications

  • Process piping pre-commissioning
  • Debris removal after construction
  • System drying after hydrotesting
  • Compressor and utility piping preparation
  • Plant turnaround support
  • Pressure and leak test preparation
  • Startup readiness verification

How We Deliver It

Field Execution & Documentation

Typical Equipment & Field Setup

  • Temporary blow piping and manifolds
  • Compressors and receivers
  • Silencers and debris-collection points
  • Target plates or velocity/cleanliness monitoring equipment
  • Exclusion-zone barricading

Planning Considerations

  • System volume and target velocity
  • Continuous vs. decompression method selection
  • Noise and exclusion-zone planning around occupied or operating areas
  • Sequencing with hydrotest and drying work
  • Acceptance criteria agreed with the client in advance

Safety & Compliance Considerations

  • Engineered procedures reviewed before execution
  • Pressure and stored-energy controls
  • Exclusion zones and access control during blow events
  • Noise management and hearing protection
  • Communication protocols for each blow cycle

Deliverables & Documentation

  • Air-blow procedure and sign-off package
  • Acceptance/target-plate test results
  • Debris and cleanliness records
  • Startup readiness confirmation
