Chemical Cleaning & Decontamination
Chemical cleaning and decontamination use selected chemicals, surfactants, solvents, inhibitors, circulation methods, temperature, and contact time to remove deposits that mechanical cleaning or water washing cannot remove effectively — including hydrocarbon residue, sludge, wax, scale, corrosion products, iron sulfide, oxides, fouling, odours, and process contamination.

Where It Applies
Industrial & Municipal Applications
Industrial / Oilfield Applications
Primus has developed its chemical cleaning methodology through direct technical work with an industry solvent supplier, including evaluation of specialized cleaning approaches for solvent cleaning and vapor-phase applications. This work has covered deposit and residue testing, circulation versus vapor-phase delivery, solvent capacity, and final water flushing with a chemical additive to leave surfaces clean and ready for inspection or return to service. In Alberta, Primus applies this methodology in refineries, SAGD facilities, terminals, pipeline systems, tanks, vessels, exchangers, boilers, and process piping — before startup, during shutdowns, after process upsets, before inspection, before confined-space entry, or when fouling has reduced equipment performance.
Typical Applications
- Pre-commissioning cleaning
- Turnaround decontamination
- Tank cleaning support
- Vessel entry preparation
- Heat exchanger cleaning
- Hydrocarbon removal
